Jet Set nightclub collapse trial continues with key testimony

The trial over the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub roof continued Friday with testimony from engineer Leonardo Reyes Madera, the first witness presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Madera, who heads the National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings, appeared before the Fourth Criminal Chamber of the National District. He explained the findings of an assessment carried out by Onesvie technicians after the collapse on April 8, 2025.

The defense subjected the engineer to intense cross-examination over his expert assessment of the structure's condition. During his testimony, Madera discussed the state of the building, the loads it carried and modifications that, according to the survey, had been made over the years.

The expert testified that the roof carried a load considerably greater than the one originally contemplated in its design.
