Four Poles injured in Croatia wildfires; one in intensive care

Four Polish citizens suffered injuries in the recent wildfires that swept through Croatia, with one individual currently in intensive care. The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the incidents and stated that consular assistance is available to the affected.

This support includes help with obtaining documentation for insurance claims on damaged vehicles and arranging repatriation. The ministry also urged Polish tourists to stay updated on official advisories and register in the Odyseusz system for emergency notifications.

The fires, which erupted near Lokva Rogoznica in central Croatia, spread rapidly due to strong winds, reaching the popular resort town of Omis. Flames consumed pine forests near Split, destroying numerous homes and vehicles. Over a thousand people were evacuated, and the fires claimed at least one life, with around 40 others injured. Croatian fire chief Slavko Tucaković described the blaze as one of the worst in the country's history, consuming approximately a thousand hectares in just four hours.

The extreme heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some Adriatic cities, has exacerbated the situation. Since the beginning of the year, Croatia has recorded approximately 3,900 fires, burning nearly 10,000 hectares of forest, a 75% increase compared to the same period last year.
