Four-story rented accommodation catches fire in Go Vap, many escape via balconies

A fire erupted in a four-story building used for rented accommodation in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The blaze, which began around 8 a.m. on July 21, forced many residents to flee by climbing onto balconies and crossing to adjacent buildings to escape the rapidly spreading flames.

Residents in the vicinity of Quang Trung Street first noticed the fire when black smoke and a burning smell emanated from the ground floor of the building. The situation was exacerbated by a local power outage at the time. Neighbors attempted to use small fire extinguishers to combat the flames, but their efforts were unsuccessful as the fire quickly intensified due to flammable materials inside.

With the ground-floor exits blocked by the fire, individuals on the upper floors were trapped. Local accounts describe panicked residents climbing over balconies to reach neighboring structures and safely descend to the ground. The intense smoke created a dangerous environment, making escape perilous.

Firefighters from the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department responded promptly, deploying multiple specialized vehicles and dozens of officers. They worked to contain the fire from the street facade and search for any trapped individuals on the upper floors. The blaze was eventually brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes. While the fire caused considerable property damage, no injuries were reported. Authorities have secured the scene and are investigating the cause of the incident.
