Four teams, four chances at glory

Queen Victoria School (QVS) is the only institution with four teams – under-14, under-15, under-16, and under-17 – reaching the semi-finals of the prestigious Vodafone Deans rugby competition. This remarkable feat underscores the depth and strength of QVS's rugby program, according to Head of School Waliki Nasau.

We focused on our little ones, from the Under-14 to the Under-17. The focus now is this bunch of players that we are going to develop over the next four years.

While the senior teams did not advance, Nasau views the success of the younger grades as a "blessing in disguise." He emphasized that the school's focus has shifted to nurturing these emerging talents, who now represent the future of rugby at QVS and carry the school's hopes for glory over the next four years.

Nasau acknowledged the significant achievement of having the most teams in contention among all participating schools. However, he stressed that QVS is not taking the semi-finals lightly. The coaching staff, including technical coaches, have been working diligently, with preparations described as going well. The teams are embracing the underdog status and are determined to let their performance on the field speak for itself.

With the four teams qualified, I think we have the biggest number out of all the schools that are participating.

The school is rallying its community, urging old boys, parents, and supporters to attend the semi-final matches this Saturday. The games will be held at various venues across Suva and Lautoka. For those unable to attend, the matches will be broadcast live on viti+.

We are not taking things lightly. From us at Vulinitu, the preparation has been going well with the coaches and our technical coaches. They have been working overtime.
