Foxconn to produce humanoid robots at Vietnam factory

Vietnam continues to solidify its position as a premier investment destination, with tech giant Foxconn significantly expanding its operations. The company's subsidiary, Fushan Technology, is pursuing environmental permits to commence the production of humanoid robots at its facility in the northern province of Bac Ninh. This move signals a strategic diversification beyond traditional electronics manufacturing.

The proposed expansion, detailed in an April 2026 environmental permit application, involves adding a second site within the VSIP Bac Ninh industrial park. Fushan Technology plans to boost production capacity for six existing product lines and introduce three new ones. These new additions include measurement and control equipment, mold components, and notably, humanoid industrial robots and automated guided vehicles. This diversification is expected to increase the annual output significantly, adding millions of products and thousands of tons to their manufacturing capabilities.

Foxconn's commitment to Vietnam, where it has invested around $4 billion since 2007, is substantial, providing employment for 130,000 people, largely concentrated in Bac Ninh. This latest venture into humanoid robot production aligns with global trends in automation and artificial intelligence, positioning Vietnam at the forefront of advanced manufacturing. The company's plans include installing new production lines between May and August 2026, with trial runs in September and full production commencing in November 2026. This expansion not only enhances Foxconn's global manufacturing footprint but also reinforces Vietnam's role as a critical hub for technological innovation and production.
