Francisco receives million-euro EuroLeague club offer

Greek basketball powerhouse Panathinaikos has reportedly made a substantial offer to secure the services of guard Sylvain Francisco. According to Greek sports journalist Sotiris Vetakis, the Athens-based club has presented Francisco with a contract valued at 3 million euros per season. This move comes as Francisco appears to be nearing the end of his tenure with French club ASVEL.

Sources suggest that Francisco's representatives have already paid a 400,000 euro buyout fee to ASVEL, a sum that ASVEL itself was reportedly unable to cover. This financial maneuver indicates potential instability within ASVEL's management and their capacity to meet contractual obligations. Panathinaikos is said to have submitted a final offer and is awaiting a swift response from the player.

The financial struggles at ASVEL are becoming increasingly apparent. Reports from L'Equipe indicate that the French team has presented a revised backup budget of 24 million euros, a stark contrast to their initial ambitious plan of 59 million euros. This significant shortfall raises questions about the team's ability to fund its operations and player salaries for the upcoming season. Last season, ASVEL's budget stood at 18.7 million euros.

Sylvain Francisco himself has reacted to the news of ASVEL's budget issues with a simple "Lol" on the X platform, formerly Twitter. If ASVEL fails to secure additional investment, the team's ability to pay its roster, which includes recent additions like Armoni Brooks, Nick Weiler-Babb, Daniel Theis, and Yves Pons, is in doubt.
