Freedom House CEO Hopes to Build Partnership with Taiwan

Taiwan's Foreign Minister met with Jamie Fly, the CEO of the U.S. non-governmental organization Freedom House, to discuss democratic development in Taiwan and globally. The meeting focused on strategies to counter authoritarian expansion and enhance human rights collaboration. Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed his hope for deepening cooperation with Freedom House and similar organizations to strengthen democratic resilience.

Fly praised Taiwan's contributions to democracy and human rights, noting its excellent rating in Freedom House's annual "Freedom in the World" report. Taiwan ranked second in Asia, following Japan, and serves as a significant model for global freedom and democracy. Fly conveyed his anticipation for building a closer partnership with Taiwan to promote regional democratic development.

Freedom House, established in 1941, is a long-standing global organization dedicated to defending democracy. Since 1973, it has published its influential "Freedom in the World" report, a key international benchmark for democratic assessment. Taiwan has been recognized as a "fully free" country in this report for nearly 30 consecutive years since 1997. Last year, Taiwan's government and civil society received the organization's "Beacon Award" for their democratic achievements.
