French media figure Guillaume Pley faces accusations of inappropriate messages to minors

Guillaume Pley, a prominent figure in French media and founder of the popular YouTube channel Legend, is embroiled in controversy following accusations of sending sexually suggestive messages to minors. The allegations, detailed in media investigations, have cast a shadow over his career and the reputation of his company.

An investigation by Les Inrocks published on August 5 detailed claims from former employees who described a "toxic, racist, and sexist work environment" at Legend. Pley has denied these allegations. The same publication also reported on exchanges between Pley and two fans who were 14-15 years old at the time, while Pley was significantly older and working at NRJ radio. These individuals, speaking anonymously, also shared their concerns with YouTuber PTZ.

Guillaume Pley responded to the accusations on Instagram, admitting that some messages were "clearly inappropriate and lacked discernment." He also suggested that his social media accounts were "co-managed with my team," implying that not all communications originated directly from him. Le Monde later published the account of another young woman who alleged Pley discussed a "threesome" with her when she was 14.

In response to the mounting allegations, Pley and Legend announced on Wednesday that they have filed multiple defamation lawsuits against media outlets that have reported on or presented the accusations as established facts. Pley's lawyer, Jade Dousselin, stated that the lawsuits target "serious and false accusations."

Pley's career began in local radio in Montpellier in 2004. He gained wider recognition for his late-night radio show "Guillaume Radio 2.0" on NRJ France from 2011 to 2018, known for its open-line format and pranks. In his June book, "Legend," he reflected on his past actions, writing, "Sometimes, we were a bit stupid. We found it exhilarating to stop at nothing." He has since stated that he understands these actions might "shock" people.
