Frente Amplio seeks to deepen party-government ties amid voter doubts

The Frente Amplio party has acknowledged internal divisions and public doubts about its government's performance following a national plenary meeting. In a statement, the party recognized that "differences and doubts exist in society regarding some actions" of the current administration.

To address this, the party declared it "essential to deepen the link" between its political base and government members, emphasizing "relative autonomy of the government, coordination, and responsibility." The statement outlined a strategy to "work together to identify the knots that explain these situations of discontent and work to improve exchange and listening." The party views criticism as an opportunity to strengthen its direction.

This comes after a recent poll showed a drop in President Yamandú Orsi's popularity, with 46% of respondents disapproving of his management. The Frente Amplio's plenary aims to "redouble" its efforts in engaging with society to identify and correct any shortcomings, and to better inform the public about the government's actions.

The party also reiterated its stance on the "challenges" facing the country, attributing them to the "poor management" of former President Luis Lacalle Pou's administration, which they claim left the largest deficit in post-dictatorship history. They also referenced the "genocide in Gaza and the inhumane intensification of the blockade against the Cuban people and the military threat imposed by the Donald Trump administration."
