Frente Amplio to Mobilize Supporters for Budget Vote, Expresses Concern Over Cuban Migrants

The Frente Amplio party is calling on its supporters to pack the public galleries of the Chamber of Deputies next week. They aim to pressure lawmakers during the vote on the government's budget accountability bill. The party's leadership also plans to address concerns about the Uruguayan government's discussions with the United States concerning Cuban migrants.

Fernando Pereira, the party's president, outlined a strategy to strengthen the organization. This includes monthly meetings of the National Government Group, featuring high-ranking officials like Vice President Carolina Cosse and Secretary of the Presidency Alejandro Sánchez. The party will also host an event on August 15 to inform its members.

Meanwhile, the National Institute of Human Rights and Ombudsman issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the potential arrival of deportees from the United States. The institute stressed Uruguay's responsibility to uphold the dignity and human rights of all individuals. It outlined minimum conditions for receiving deportees, including individual interviews, ensuring they are not unaccompanied minors, applying Refugee Commission criteria, and guaranteeing safe transfer.

The institute also stated that any deportees received must have immediate access to documentation to regularize their status in Uruguay and ensure freedom of movement.
