From cooking to collecting donations, celebrities join Nepal flood relief effort

Nepali celebrities are travelling into flood-affected communities, carrying relief supplies and helping distribute them in person.

Miss Nepal Deepmala Dhakal is working with the Hami Nepal organisation in Nuwakot, where she has visited several camps. She said rescue workers need raincoats and boots as urgently as flood victims do.

Singer Durgesh Thapa travelled to Bidur and other parts of Nuwakot, distributing food and clothing and serving rice to people affected by the flooding. Actor Paul Shah said he helped 400 households in Pipaltar, in Bidur Municipality. Half received quilts, mattresses and blankets. The others received undergarments, shawls, noodles, biscuits, oral rehydration solution and sanitary pads.

Actress Priyanka Karki said she was preparing to take donated clothing and other contributions to places that had not yet received relief. Rapper VTEN also travelled to Bidur, while singer Ekdev Limbu delivered a vanload of supplies, including vegetables. “There’s a special joy in returning after doing whatever small part I could,” Limbu wrote.

Singer Samikshya Adhikari said she sent supplies for flood victims in Rasuwa through the District Administration Office in Kaski. Content creator Eva Giri posted videos showing medicine, food and clothing being distributed. Actress Reecha Sharma, visiting Gosaikunda, appealed for clothing donations, saying stranded local residents, particularly women and children, urgently needed them.

Other artists have also contributed money to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, according to their means.
