Frosinone seal Akpoguma deal after Hoffenheim exit

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is poised to embark on a new chapter in his career, agreeing to terms with newly promoted Italian Serie A club Frosinone. The transfer follows Akpoguma's departure from German club Hoffenheim, where he spent more than ten years.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Frosinone has finalized negotiations for the 31-year-old center-back, with contract details expected to be officially announced soon. Akpoguma joined Hoffenheim in 2013 from Karlsruher. During his tenure, he also had loan spells at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before establishing himself in Hoffenheim's first team. However, he saw limited playing time in his final season, making only nine appearances before his contract expired, making him a free agent.

The move to Serie A presents a significant opportunity for the experienced Nigerian international to return to regular first-team football. Akpoguma will reunite with compatriot Akor Adams in Italy's top flight, as Adams recently completed a notable transfer to newly promoted Venezia. Both players are expected to make an impact in the upcoming Serie A season.

Akpoguma, who represented Germany at the youth international level before switching his allegiance to Nigeria, has earned eight caps for the Super Eagles since his debut in 2020. His most recent appearance for the national team was in June 2023. The transfer to Frosinone signifies a fresh start for the defender as the club prepares for its campaign in Italy's premier football league.
