NSC presents promised 2024 WAFCON rewards to Falcons

Reigning African champions, the Super Falcons, have officially received the rewards promised by the Nigerian Federal Government following their triumph at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The presentation took place in Rabat, Morocco, on Tuesday, just hours before Nigeria's opening match in the 2026 WAFCON against Malawi.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, alongside NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, presented the team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and her teammates with the title documents for the three-bedroom houses promised to each player. National honour certificates were also part of the package.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF GS Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday presented the 2025 WAFCON triumph rewards promised by the FGN to the Super Falcons in Rabat, Morocco.

The rewards, initially announced by President Bola Tinubu after Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th WAFCON title by defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final, include a $100,000 cash prize for each player and $50,000 for the technical and backroom staff. While the cash rewards were reportedly disbursed earlier, the housing documents and national honours certificates were delayed until the team's assembly for the current tournament.

I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts.

Dikko explained that the presentation was strategically scheduled to coincide with the squad's gathering for their title defence. "We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON," he said. He reaffirmed that the monetary rewards had already been paid after administrative processes were concluded.

The presentation occurs as Nigeria begins its defence of the continental crown in Morocco, aiming for an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title. The Falcons' group stage matches include encounters against Zambia and Egypt after their opener against Malawi.
