The incident arose from a play in the fifth inning where a runner was called out on a stolen base attempt, but the official scoring recorded it as a strikeout ending the inning. Goto sought clarification from the umpire about the sequence of events.

His confusion intensified in the sixth inning when the first batter was Zhang Yu-Cheng instead of the expected player, leading him to approach the umpire with a serious expression.

This confrontation follows a similar incident the previous day, when Goto protested during the 10th inning over the stadium's big screen displaying a live feed of the pitcher-catcher interaction during a hitting at-bat. The manager appeared visibly agitated on both days.
