Fubon's foreign pitcher struggles with home mound; Dykxhoorn offers insight

Fubon Guardians' foreign pitcher, Magic Blue, experienced unusual difficulties with the pitcher's mound at their home stadium in Xinzhuang on Friday. During the fourth and fifth innings, Magic Blue twice had to pause the game to request that groundskeepers tend to the mound, which he found unstable.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, while facing Chang Hsiang, Magic Blue's footing was compromised, leading to four consecutive balls and a walk. The Guardians called for a timeout to address the mound issue, and groundskeepers spent time making repairs. However, the problem resurfaced in the top of the fifth inning during his warm-up pitches, prompting another pause.

Uni-Lions pitcher Brock Dykxhoorn, Magic Blue's counterpart, commented on the Xinzhuang mound, stating it felt normal to him. He speculated that the issue might stem from their similar landing spots on the mound. "Perhaps our landing spots are very close, which might be affecting Magic Blue," Dykxhoorn said.

Dykxhoorn further noted that while most starting pitchers have different takeoff points and landing spots, his and Magic Blue's rear foot starting points and landing areas were the same. "This is quite rare, and it might be causing him some trouble," he added, suggesting a potential cause for Magic Blue's struggles.
