Fuerte Olimpo Regional Hospital construction complete, awaits equipment and doctors

The construction of the Regional Hospital in Fuerte Olimpo, Alto Paraguay, has concluded after four years, with a total cost exceeding G. 18 billion. The project faced delays due to various issues, including intermittent disbursement of funds, and saw four governors during its development.

Four governors passed for the hospital to finally be finished.

The 4,000-square-meter facility is built on a challenging low-lying area previously characterized by palm trees and water. To ensure stability, the structure rests on 540 foundation pillars, a semi-deep foundation system. The hospital comprises multiple blocks designed to meet the needs of a facility of this scale.

Key areas include a dedicated emergency department with separate reception, triage, resuscitation, and minor procedure rooms for adults and children. Additionally, there are nine inpatient rooms, each with private bathrooms, providing a total capacity of 32 beds. The hospital also features conference rooms, a waiting area for patient families, and a dining hall for staff.

Although construction is complete, the project team continues to assist Ministry of Health officials in verifying the facility and identifying any extra work needed for equipping the new hospital. The regional director, Dr. Ariel Acuña, expressed optimism as Ministry of Health officials conducted a site survey to expedite the equipping process and enable the hospital's operational launch.

At this moment, and despite having already completed the work contemplated in the contract, we continue to accompany the officials of the Ministry of Health, who, upon verifying the work, request some extra work from us so that the new premises can be equipped.

Professionals from the Ministry of Health are inspecting various areas, including inpatient wards, operating rooms, imaging departments, and the pharmacy. Their objective is to identify all necessary furniture and medical equipment required to bring the hospital into service for the benefit of the department's residents.

These professionals are touring the different areas of the new work, such as hospitalization, operating room, imaging, and pharmacy, with the objective of collecting data on everything that will be needed, both in furniture and medical equipment.
