Fugitive Saimoni Rokotunidau Evades Police Capture

Saimoni Rokotunidau remains on the run, with police unable to locate him despite an active bench warrant. The State informed the court that Rokotunidau has allegedly sold some of his properties, making him unreachable.

Rokotunidau is accused of being the driver involved in an incident at a Laqere police roadblock in May. This alleged incident led to several police officers being hospitalized, including the daughter of the Defence Minister, Pio Tikoduadua.

He faces serious charges, including attempted murder, serious assault, going equipped for stealing, unlawful possession of illicit drugs, and refusing to provide fingerprints and photographs. Police also allege that illicit drugs were seized following the incident. A bench warrant for his arrest is still in effect, and he has not been located.

The State requested the court to summon Rokotunidau’s two sureties to determine if they know his whereabouts. Justice Tuiqereqere ordered the sureties to appear in court on August 24.
