Fujimori confirms commitment to Lima 2027 Pan American Games

Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori has strongly reaffirmed her government's commitment to hosting the Lima 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games. Meeting with key sports officials, including Panam Sports President Neven Ilic and the President of the Americas Paralympic Committee Julio César Ávila, Fujimori expressed her determination to make the upcoming games even more successful than the 2019 edition.

"The challenge is that the 2027 Pan American Games next year are better than those of 2019. I am a woman of challenges, and knowing that there is a competent and professional team, we are sure that we will make Peru's name shine," Fujimori stated. She acknowledged that planned infrastructure projects have not progressed as quickly as desired since she took office on July 28, but vowed to expedite the construction of necessary facilities.

During the meeting at the Government Palace, Fujimori also welcomed American gymnast Simone Biles and Colombian Paralympic athlete Karen Palomeque, who were invited to the upcoming ceremony marking the start of the one-year countdown. The President highlighted the role of the games in showcasing athletes' talents and inspiring young people to pursue sports, emphasizing the importance of preparation, method, and discipline.

The 2027 Pan American Games are scheduled to take place in Lima from July 23 to August 8, 2027, expecting over 7,000 athletes from 41 countries to compete in 38 sports. The Parapan American Games will follow from August 20 to 29, featuring Para athletes from 34 countries in 17 sports.
