Funeral date announced for Polish Senator and General Mirosław Różański, family makes special request

The final farewell for Senator and General Mirosław Różański is set for Friday, August 28, in Międzyrzecz, Poland. The distinguished military leader and politician passed away during the night between Sunday and Monday after a years-long struggle with cancer. He was 63 years old.

A memorial mass will be held in his honor at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Church of St. Wojciech in Międzyrzecz. The funeral ceremony will follow at 2 p.m. at the Municipal Cemetery in the same town. In accordance with the general's wishes, his family has requested that attendees refrain from sending flowers. Instead, they ask for small monetary donations to be made to charitable causes.

General Różański had a long and distinguished career in the Polish Army, serving from 1986 until his retirement in 2017. He reached the rank of General of the Armed Forces and held the position of Commander-in-Chief of the General Command of the Armed Forces from 2015. He was instrumental in shaping the current command structure of the Polish military.

Before his command role, Różański served in mechanized forces and twice led the 17th Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade. He also commanded a battle group during the VIII rotation of the Polish contingent in Iraq in 2007 and later led the 11th Armored Cavalry Division. He was promoted to brigadier general in 2005, making him one of the youngest generals in the Polish Army at the time. After his military service, he became involved in public life, founding the Stratpoints Security and Development Foundation and later entering politics, serving as a senator and heading the defense committee.
