Future Festival aims for cosmic ambitions

Frombork, Poland, is preparing to host the third annual Future Festival, an event that bridges the worlds of art and science. Over the past three years, the festival has grown in recognition, attracting both tourists and prominent scientists and artists. This year's event promises a rich program designed to stimulate imagination and foster a deeper understanding of complex issues.

The festival's scientific component includes three key debates. One will tackle disinformation, with scientists discussing current conspiracy theories across various fields, from cosmology to biology. Another panel will explore the implications of a widespread power outage, simulating a blackout scenario with experts to advise on preparedness and national response. The third debate focuses on the future of energy, examining how to build local energy security through smart and effective strategies, including energy clusters and cooperatives.

The cultural program is equally vibrant, featuring a headline concert by Alabastra DePlume, with a guest appearance by Wojciech Mazolewski, performing pieces from his album "Copernicus." The festival will open with ambient concerts by Olga Markowska and Tomasz Bednarczyk, whose performances will be recorded and released by Fundacja Future and Sonar Records to promote the festival internationally.

Other musical acts include Etnobotanika and Remont Pomp, a band known for its ethnic, avant-garde, and improvised music, which has collaborated with notable artists. The festival also maintains its literary tradition, with author Marcin Cielecki presenting his book "Dziedziniec pogan" (Courtyard of the Pagans). The festival aims to build an opinion-shaping institution at the intersection of art and science, with aspirations for its impact to extend beyond Poland's borders.
