Galatsi: Forensic Examiner's Findings Point to Murder in 80-Year-Old's Death

A forensic examination has introduced new evidence into the death of an 80-year-old man found deceased in his Galatsi apartment last Saturday. The examination concluded that the elderly man died from airway obstruction, strengthening the theory of a criminal act, according to ERT sources.

Police officers believe the perpetrator caused asphyxiation by placing a pillow over the victim's face. This pillow, which reportedly had bloodstains, has been sent to the Hellenic Police's forensic laboratories for further analysis. Initial findings indicate no signs of forced entry at the apartment's main door, leading authorities to suspect the perpetrator either entered without force or already had access.

The investigation also revealed that only the 80-year-old's bedroom was disturbed, supporting the assessment that the perpetrator was searching for something specific before fleeing. The victim was discovered by his son, who became concerned after his father failed to answer his landline or mobile phone. A preliminary inspection noted a neck injury on the 80-year-old, which immediately raised suspicions for the coroner and police.

The Athens Security Directorate is leading the investigation. Detectives are gathering security camera footage from the area and interviewing residents and potential witnesses to map the perpetrator's movements and shed light on the circumstances of the homicide.
