Tempi Train Crash Trial: Court Rejects Postponement Requests

The Three-Member Court of Misdemeanors Appeals in Larissa has unanimously rejected all requests for a postponement of the trial concerning the Tempi train crash. Defense attorneys for the accused ERGOSE executives had submitted these requests.

In addition to postponing the trial, the court also dismissed requests to forward preliminary questions to the Court of Justice of the European Union. Objections related to double jeopardy, arguing that some ERGOSE defendants should not face further prosecution due to prior rulings, were also rejected.

Specific to a former ERGOSE president, the court denied his request to have his criminal prosecution declared inadmissible due to pending litigation. His objection to the validity of the criminal proceedings against him was also overruled.

Furthermore, the court rejected objections concerning the invalidity of the summonses submitted by the defense counsels for the accused. A lawyer supporting the prosecution also had their objections dismissed.

The trial is now moving forward, with the prosecutor currently presenting the case against the defendants. The proceedings are focused on establishing accountability for the tragic railway accident.
