Gamliel appeals Likud recount, alleges 'contaminated' vote count in Be'er Yaakov

Innovation, Science, and Technology Minister Gila Gamliel has filed a police complaint against Likud Director General David Sharan, MK Haim Katz, and a security guard. The complaint stems from a decision to recount Likud primary ballots from Be'er Ya'akov, a move Gamliel argues could jeopardize her candidacy.

Gamliel appealed to the Likud's Supreme Court, requesting an injunction to prevent the opening of a specific ballot box in Be'er Ya'akov for a recount. She contends that this recount could push her down the Likud's Knesset list, potentially allowing Eti Atiya to replace her in the 25th position. In her petition, Gamliel asserted that the Likud Central Elections Committee's decision to reopen ballot box No. 101101 in Be'er Ya'akov could directly and immediately harm her primary candidacy.

Alternatively, Gamliel requested that if a recount proceeds, it should be conducted equally and comprehensively across all ballot boxes nationwide where irregularities have been raised, not solely in Be'er Ya'akov. She claimed the count was "contaminated," citing that ballot boxes from Be'er Ya'akov remained in Likud management's possession for eight days after counting and uploading results. This extended custody, she argued, creates "a real and serious concern regarding the integrity of the ballot boxes."

MK Haim Katz responded to Gamliel's complaint via X, directing any grievances to the Lahav 433 police unit headquarters. The Likud had previously announced the recount after Gamliel's appeal to the party's Supreme Court.
