Garmisch-Partenkirchen Commemorates One Year Since Biathlete Laura Dahlmeier's Death

Around 150 people gathered in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to commemorate the first anniversary of the tragic death of former biathlete Laura Dahlmeier. The memorial service took place in her hometown, a year after she died in Pakistan's Karakorum Mountains on July 28, 2025.

During the service, Pastor Andreas Lackermeier spoke at the memorial site in the Laura-Dahlmeier-Park, which was renamed in her honor. He reflected on the enduring pain and grief caused by her death, stating, "Time heals all wounds. How wrong this saying is, we experience once again when we look at the tragic death of Laura Dahlmeier. Yes, time, which passes and nothing else." He emphasized that the pain and sorrow have not faded and that her death has left a significant void.

Dahlmeier tragically passed away during a climbing expedition in the Laila Peak area of the Karakorum Mountains. Despite rescue missions, her body remains at the accident site, in accordance with her expressed wishes. The park in Garmisch-Partenkirchen now features a memorial stone, candles, flowers, and a photo of the young athlete under a large tree.

Notably, Dahlmeier's family consciously chose not to attend the memorial event. The gathering, marked by somber brass music and attendees dressed in traditional attire, honored the memory of the accomplished biathlete. The event underscored the deep impact Dahlmeier's life and untimely death had on her community and the world of sports.
