Gaza flotilla arrives in Albania to support 'flamingo revolution' against Trump-linked projects

A flotilla of three boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla coalition has arrived in Vlora, Albania. The group, formed to challenge the Israeli blockade of Gaza, now aims to support a burgeoning environmental movement protesting against luxury tourism projects.

The activists are lending their voice to the "flaming revolution," a significant citizen and environmentalist mobilization against two major tourism developments. These projects are reportedly linked to Jared Kushner, former U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, and are planned for a coastal area of high ecological value.

The expedition, comprising about 30 activists including members of the Albanian diaspora in Italy, sailed from Brindisi, Italy. They intend to visit the affected areas on Sazan island and the Zvernec coast, and participate in marches in the capital, Tirana. The flotilla's mission statement declares its goal to "directly counter state corruption, ecological devastation, and the aggressive expansion of foreign financial capital in the Mediterranean basin."

This wave of public discontent began in May when residents discovered their beach had been fenced off. The enclosure marked a development attributed to Kushner's business partners, whose investment fund, Affinity Partners, is projecting a resort complex valued at approximately 3 billion euros. The protests have escalated into the largest social mobilization in Albania since the fall of communism, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the prosecution of opposition leader Sali Berisha for alleged corruption.
