German Minister: Drone Incident at Airport is Hybrid Attack Scenario

Germany's Interior Minister, A. Dobrindt, has characterized the discovery of a drone carrying an explosive device at Leipzig Airport as a "very serious security incident" and a potential scenario of hybrid attack. The incident led to a temporary suspension of flights at the eastern German airport overnight.

Security sources indicated the drone was found near an Antonov AN-124 Condor transport aircraft. Police specialists secured the drone, and after an X-ray examination, they neutralized the explosive device. While drones have been observed previously, Dobrindt stressed that the appearance of an armed drone near the airport signifies a new level of threat.

Investigations are currently underway to identify the type of explosive material, the drone's construction, its origin, and those responsible for deploying it. The incident raises significant concerns about the security vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure like airports to such unconventional threats.
