German Police Seize Modified E-Scooter Capable of 85 km/h

Authorities in Rennertshofen, Germany, have confiscated a significantly modified electric scooter that was found to be capable of reaching speeds of up to 85 kilometers per hour. This starkly contrasts with the legal limit for e-scooters, which is set at a maximum of 20 km/h.

The 15-year-old driver of the high-speed e-scooter was apprehended by police after witnesses reported the vehicle traveling at an unusually fast pace. While the teenager denied tampering with the scooter, officers observed modifications and conducted a stationary test that revealed the vehicle's potential to exceed the legal speed limit by more than four times.

Further inspection revealed that the e-scooter lacked both an identification number and the required type approval for electric scooters. Consequently, the vehicle was seized by the police.

The 15-year-old rider is now facing investigation for operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license and for violating compulsory insurance regulations. The incident highlights concerns about the misuse and modification of electric scooters on public roads.
