Germany: Heatwave to hit Berlin and Brandenburg with temperatures up to 37C

Berlin and Brandenburg are bracing for intense heat on Saturday, with the German Weather Service (DWD) forecasting temperatures as high as 37 degrees Celsius. Health officials, including Uwe Brockhausen, the SPD district councilor for Reinickendorf, and district medical officer Patrick Larscheid, have issued warnings about the severe heat load. They cautioned that the extreme temperatures could lead to circulatory issues and general discomfort, posing a life-threatening risk in the worst-case scenarios. Residents are advised to avoid direct sunlight and strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon. The DWD anticipates dry conditions initially, with only minor showers and thunderstorms possible in the Prignitz region by evening. Overnight into Sunday, rain and thunderstorms are expected across the remaining areas, bringing temperatures down to between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius. Sunday is forecast to be milder, with a maximum temperature of 27 degrees and an expected end to rain showers by midday. The new week will begin with cooler temperatures, ranging from 20 to 23 degrees Celsius on Monday.
