Germany's AfD vows to exit Schengen and ditch euro if it wins power

Alice Weidel, co-leader of the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has declared that if her party assumes power, Germany will withdraw from the Schengen Area and abandon the euro. In a recent interview with German public television ZDF, Weidel expressed strong optimism about the AfD's political future, stating, "We are on the path to victory."

Weidel anticipates the AfD forming a government in Saxony-Anhalt and believes the CDU party will no longer win Bundestag elections. She also projected successes in upcoming state elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin, asserting, "We will also govern at the national level."

Regarding border policy, Weidel announced plans to "close borders" and exit Schengen to prevent individuals from countries like Ceuta from entering Germany. She argued that the Schengen agreement is failing because neither external borders nor internal controls are secure. Weidel also stated that all Syrians currently in Germany, numbering 1.3 million, would be sent home.

Furthermore, Weidel confirmed the AfD's platform goal of abandoning the euro, which she described as an "unstable currency." She contended that Germany fared better economically before adopting the euro and that the currency has led to widespread impoverishment among the working class.
