Germany weather: Hot, stormy start to week followed by sunny and dry conditions

The week begins with hot and stormy weather across Berlin and Brandenburg, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). Sunday is expected to see temperatures ranging from 27 degrees Celsius in Prignitz to a high of 34 degrees Celsius in Niederlausitz. Residents in the southern parts of Brandenburg should prepare for the possibility of severe thunderstorms developing on Sunday afternoon, which could bring heavy rainfall, hail, and strong wind gusts.

Hot and stormy is the start to the new August week. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts temperatures between 27 degrees in Prignitz and 34 degrees in Niederlausitz for today.

However, a significant change is anticipated for Tuesday, with cooler temperatures expected, peaking at around 24 degrees Celsius. The DWD forecasts dry conditions, and this trend is expected to continue for the remainder of the week. Following the cooler Tuesday, temperatures are predicted to climb again, with forecasts indicating the possibility of reaching or exceeding 30 degrees Celsius later in the week.

In the south of Brandenburg, isolated severe thunderstorms can develop from the afternoon onwards. Heavy rain, hail, and storm gusts are not ruled out.

Despite the return to warmer weather, the DWD predicts no further rain after Tuesday. This extended dry spell, coupled with high temperatures, raises concerns about forest fire risks. Authorities are urging particular caution in natural areas due to the heightened danger of fires. Additionally, the low water levels in rivers are noted as a consequence of the ongoing dry conditions, highlighting the environmental impact of the changing weather patterns.
