GFA president visits Black Princesses in Poland and backs team to make history

Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku arrived in Poland with a message for Ghana’s Black Princesses: this team can finally make it out of the group stage.

The Ghana Football Association president and CAF second vice president watched the team train ahead of its opening match at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. He told the players that the first match against Ecuador would set the tone for the tournament.

Ghana has appeared at the tournament seven consecutive times, but has never qualified from its group. Simeon-Okraku said the current squad had enough quality to change that record, insisting that Ecuador, Korea Republic and France were not beyond Ghana’s reach.

“You have been patient and gone through the troubles and the hassles,” he told the players. “I believe that these sacrifices you have made, these investments you have made, will be repaid.” He praised the technical staff and urged the final squad to perform for teammates who had not made the selection. Ghana’s group campaign begins against Ecuador on September 6, followed by matches against Korea Republic and France.
