Ghana and Korea Launch Heritage Project Steering Committee

Ghanaian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has inaugurated the Ghana-Korea Heritage Project Steering Committee. This committee will provide strategic oversight for a significant five-year program dedicated to preserving Ghana’s heritage sites and bolstering their resilience against the impacts of climate change.

The collaborative project will implement crucial activities such as climate-risk mapping, digital surveying, and 3D modeling of heritage locations. It also includes joint research initiatives, capacity-building workshops for local professionals, community engagement efforts, and the deployment of modern monitoring technologies.

South Korea is contributing specialized equipment to enhance Ghana's capabilities. This includes advanced tools like drones, 3D scanners, digital microscopes, thermal imaging cameras, and GPS survey instruments. These resources will empower Ghana to scientifically assess, document, and conserve its valuable heritage structures more effectively.

This partnership, set to extend through 2030 and beyond, is designed to foster deeper cultural connections between Ghana and Korea. Ultimately, it seeks to promote a model of heritage management that is sustainable, driven by technology, and adaptive to climate change, ensuring these sites are preserved for future generations.
