Ghana onion crisis: NOPPMAN seeks ECOWAS intervention

The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) has urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to intervene in an ongoing trade dispute with Ghana. NOPPMAN seeks resolution for the continued restriction of Nigerian and Nigerien onion trucks attempting to offload their produce at the Kotoku Market in Ghana.

NOPPMAN stated that the trucks are being prevented from accessing the market, creating a significant obstacle for Nigerian and Nigerien traders. This restriction impacts the flow of essential agricultural goods within the West African region and disrupts established trade routes.

The association warned that these restrictions are ongoing and are causing considerable concern among producers and marketers. NOPPMAN is appealing to ECOWAS, a regional bloc promoting economic cooperation, to mediate and find a swift solution to ensure fair trade practices and market access for its members.
