Ghanaian editor cautions NDC against assuming 2028 election victory

Kwesi Pratt Jr., Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has cautioned Ghana's National Democratic Congress (NDC) against complacency regarding the 2028 general elections. He described the belief that the NDC will automatically return to power as "faulty" and "amateurish."

Pratt highlighted on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana that political landscapes are dynamic. He warned that significant national scandals could quickly erode any government achievements, emphasizing that "only amateurs can think that the NDC victory in 2028 is guaranteed." He also pointed to ongoing discussions about constitutional reforms, particularly concerning dual citizens in public office, as potential political flashpoints if they face strong public opposition.

The editor also expressed concern over perceived early presidential ambitions among some government officials. He stated that ministers, CEOs, party officials, and diplomats should prioritize fulfilling their current mandates instead of engaging in activities that promote personal political aspirations. Pratt believes that public disagreements among ministers damage the government's image and divert attention from critical national issues like illegal mining, corruption, economic management, and infrastructure development.

Urging President John Dramani Mahama to enforce discipline within his administration, Pratt stressed that effective governance, economic improvement, affordable living conditions, and public trust in state institutions are crucial for national stability. He concluded by stating that all political actors share a responsibility to safeguard Ghana's democratic stability and avoid actions that could incite unnecessary tension.
