Gia Bac Pass Closed Due to Severe Landslides After Heavy Rains in Vietnam

The mountainous terrain of Lam Dong province, while beautiful, is increasingly vulnerable to the destructive forces of nature. Recent widespread heavy rains have triggered significant landslides along Gia Bac Pass on National Highway 28, a critical artery connecting the region to Binh Thuan province. The scale of the damage, with hundreds of cubic meters of soil and rock cascading onto the roadway, has necessitated an urgent and drastic measure: the complete closure of a key section of the pass.

Effective May 20th, all vehicles are prohibited from traversing the affected stretch of Gia Bac Pass. This decision, made by the Department of Construction in coordination with local traffic police and authorities, prioritizes the safety of travelers and the integrity of the infrastructure. The closure is indefinite, pending the completion of emergency repair operations. This move, while essential for safety and repair, will undoubtedly cause disruptions for commuters and businesses relying on this route.

To mitigate the impact of the closure, the Lam Dong Department of Construction has outlined alternative routes. Travelers heading between Lam Dong and Binh Thuan can now opt for National Highway 20 connecting to National Highway 28B, or utilize National Highway 55, or the B'Sa - Da Ploa road (DT.717). Similar diversions are available for those traveling from Binh Thuan. The authorities are emphasizing the need for strict adherence to these detours and have called for increased patrols to ensure compliance and maintain safety during this period of restricted access.
