Giant creature causes panic on Marbella beach; tourists thought it was a shark

Swimmers on a popular Marbella beach experienced moments of panic when a massive marine creature, initially mistaken for a shark, was spotted thrashing near the shore. The incident occurred on El Ancón beach, part of the renowned Golden Mile on Spain's Costa del Sol.

The large animal, later identified as a tuna weighing around 295 kilograms, caused alarm among beachgoers. One swimmer quickly swam towards the shore, while others rushed to get a closer look. The fish appeared to be injured, bleeding from its gills, and the surrounding water turned red, leading to fears of a shark attack.

It was in such bad shape that I went into the water to see if it was caught in a net or if it had something inside, but there was nothing. It was huge and so beautiful.

Witnesses speculated that the tuna might have been wounded by fishing gear or a collision with a jet ski, though no official cause for its injuries has been confirmed. After realizing it was not a shark and seeing the fish in distress, several tourists stepped in to help.

Using beach chairs and loungers, the individuals attempted to guide the distressed tuna back into deeper waters. Eventually, the fish managed to propel itself back into the sea and swam away. One British resident described the scene, noting the fish's immense size and beauty despite its poor condition, and checked if it was entangled in anything.
