Gibran trusts Sudaryono's experience to lead National Nutrition Agency

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka voiced optimism regarding the appointment of Sudaryono as the new Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Gibran believes Sudaryono's background as Deputy Minister of Agriculture will be instrumental in enhancing the governance of the free nutritious meal (MBG) project.

"I trust in Mr. Sudaryono's experience as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, who oversees food security," Gibran stated in an official release on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He added that the new leadership is backed by a strong commitment from the MBG project's implementing agencies. This collective effort, he hopes, will lead to a more transparent and targeted execution of this priority program, ensuring that every rupiah spent is accountable and directly benefits the nutritional improvement of Indonesian children.

Gibran also conveyed well wishes for the recovery of Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, the former head of BGN, hoping her medical treatment proceeds smoothly. The Vice President affirmed support for focusing the MBG project in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions. He also emphasized the importance of involving micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM), school canteens, and parents in the meal distribution program. "We want MBG, as one of the President's priority programs, to run with better, measurable management and avoid corrupt practices," Gibran remarked.

Nanik S. Deyang had previously announced her resignation as Head of BGN via Facebook, citing health reasons and a need to focus on her heart condition treatment. President Prabowo Subianto officially appointed Sudaryono to the position on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. According to State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, a key consideration for Sudaryono's appointment was his early involvement in conceptualizing the MBG program. Sudaryono, known to be close to Prabowo, was involved in discussions and planning for the program's technical implementation from its inception. His role at the Ministry of Agriculture, which is a crucial pillar in the MBG supply chain for raw materials, further solidified his suitability for the role.
