Giménez Debuts as Porto Beat Moreirense 2-1

Santiago Giménez began his Porto career with a 2-1 win over Moreirense in the Primeira Liga, but the Mexican striker could not find the net. He came close twice, only for goalkeeper André Ferreira to save both attempts.

Porto’s goals came from Jan Bednarek in the 37th minute and William Gomes in the 58th. Dinis Pinto scored Moreirense’s goal in the 20th minute. Giménez, a product of Cruz Azul’s academy, is looking to recover the scoring touch he lost during his time with Milan.

At Milan, Giménez scored seven goals and provided six assists in 37 appearances, figures well below his record at Feyenoord. In the Dutch league, he scored 65 goals in 105 matches and supplied 14 assists.

In Spain, Real Madrid suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 1-0 away to Real Betis. Irish forward Troy Parrott scored in the 80th minute, moving Betis into third place on six points, level with Real Madrid and Barcelona. Barcelona leads the table and was due to visit Valencia the following day.
