Girão Thanks Michelle Bolsonaro, Criticizes PL Deal-Making

Senator Eduardo Girão, a pre-candidate for the governorship of Ceará, has publicly expressed gratitude for Michelle Bolsonaro's endorsement of his candidacy. This support comes amid a visible rift within the Liberal Party (PL), further highlighted by a video from the former first lady criticizing Flávio Bolsonaro. Girão stated he values Michelle Bolsonaro's confidence and support. He also directed pointed remarks at PL members who do not back his campaign, asserting that his political approach is based on honesty and eschews "negotiations" or backroom deals. The senator intends to run for governor of Ceará, a move complicated by the PL's decision to form an alliance with pre-candidate Ciro Gomes (PSDB). This alliance was previously opposed by Michelle Bolsonaro. Despite the video released on Wednesday, Flávio Bolsonaro is expected to proceed with the alliance with Ciro Gomes. The agreement reportedly allocates one of the Senate seats to state representative Alcides Fernandes (PL), father of federal deputy André Fernandes (PL-CE). Michelle Bolsonaro had advocated for Fortaleza city councilwoman Priscila Costa (PL) for the Senate position. Speaking on Thursday, Girão expressed hope and reiterated that his principles are non-negotiable. "This is also the land that I have the honor to serve to the best of my ability with honesty, without negotiations. I have faith that the people of Ceará deserve a government that does not trade principles for positions but places truth and justice above all else," he told the publication Painel.
