Girón: The Alternative Between Past and Future

Sixty-five years ago, in April of fire and courage, the Cuban people achieved a monumental victory at Playa Girón, a triumph that unequivocally demonstrated our unwavering will to defend the Revolution with arms. Today, as we commemorate the centenary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center is hosting a significant workshop from April 14th to 15th, delving into the profound meaning of this heroic feat.

The workshop, aptly named "Girón, 65 Years After the Great Victory Against Imperialism," serves as a crucial platform for analyzing the historical significance of this event. The inaugural conference, focusing on the role of the U.S. Armed Forces and the mercenary invasion, will be led by Dr. René González Barrios, director of the Center. The program also includes the presentation of a new book, "Playa Girón: 65 Years After That Socialist April," and the opening of the exhibition "Fidel, Days of Girón."

Since its inception, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center has championed the study of Girón as a cornerstone of our anti-imperialist resistance. This year's workshop, featuring historians, journalists, and researchers, will further explore the invaluable lessons derived from that epic struggle. As Fidel himself so eloquently defined it in 1976, Girón represented "the alternative between the past and the future, reaction or progress, tradition or loyalty to principles, capitalism or socialism, imperialist domination or liberation." This enduring truth resonates with renewed force with each anniversary, reminding us of the path we have chosen and the principles we steadfastly uphold.
