Golden Melody Awards: Jolin Tsai wins Best Female Vocalist in first round; Bai Bing-bing loses after three rounds

The 37th Golden Melody Awards concluded with Jolin Tsai clinching the Best Mandarin Female Vocalist award, a victory determined in the very first round of deliberations. Huang Yun-ling, the jury chair, revealed that Tsai faced minimal competition, highlighting her commanding performance.

Huang explained that Chang's album, "Following the Feeling," stood out due to its strong instrumental focus, with Chang himself taking a more behind-the-scenes role in the production.

While Chang Chen-yue's "Following the Feeling" secured the Best Mandarin Album award, Tsai's "Pleasure" was honored with Album of the Year. Huang clarified this distinction, describing Album of the Year as a selection that represents a significant, forward-looking work defining the entire year, carrying a sense of historical importance.

In the part of Best Mandarin Female Vocalist, Huang Yun-ling revealed that Jolin Tsai appeared in the first round, almost without competitors.

In the Best Taiwanese Opera Female Vocalist category, Huang addressed the surprise outcome where Bai Bing-bing did not win. She noted that this category required three rounds of voting. While Bai Bing-bing was not the final winner, the second-highest vote-getter in the third round was actually Zheng Yi-nong, a previous Golden Melody Award winner, not Bai Bing-bing.

Regarding the Best Taiwanese Opera Female Vocalist, Huang Yun-ling stated that it took three rounds of voting to reach a result, but the final vote count was not between Bai Bing-bing and Wu Bei-ya. In the third round, the second-highest vote-getter was actually Zheng Yi-nong.
