Goma Celebrates African Women's Day, Highlighting Resilience and Entrepreneurship

Goma, in the Nord-Kivu region, marked International African Women's Day on July 31 by celebrating the strength and entrepreneurial spirit of local women.

The event, organized by the Synergy of Women for Peace and Security, aimed to showcase the capacity of Congolese women to overcome a challenging security environment. Activities featured thematic panel discussions and a major exhibition of artistic works and products from local female entrepreneurs.

Organizers emphasized that economic stability is crucial for building a serene future in the region. Rachel Mululu, focal point for the Synergy of Women for Peace and Security, recalled the long-standing fight for women's access to education and economic stability. "For peace to be sustainable, women must have financial means," she stated.

The exhibition served as a platform for these empowerment efforts, transforming the commemoration into an economic opportunity hub. Items on display, ranging from soaps and art to clothing and recycled products, demonstrated the inventiveness of women in Nord-Kivu. "It shows that women are not just victims, but also agents of peace and promoters of resilience in the situation we are going through," Mululu added. The celebration aligned with the international theme: "African Woman, Pillar of Sustainable Development and Agent of Change for Tomorrow's Africa."
