Google announces new submarine cable network connecting Americas and Europe

Google is expanding its digital infrastructure with a new project named 'Americas Connect,' which involves deploying three new submarine cables across the Caribbean and Pacific oceans. The initiative aims to bolster connectivity between the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe.

The new infrastructure includes the 'Alisios' cable linking the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile; the 'Canoa' cable connecting the Dominican Republic with Bermuda; and the 'OlaLuz' cable linking the Dominican Republic to Florida in the United States. Additionally, Google will extend its 'Firmina' submarine cable to the Dominican Republic to broaden its reach.

These new routes will interconnect with existing Google cables like 'Curie,' 'Nuvem,' and 'Sol.' This integration will create redundant network rings, enhancing the reliability and resilience of internet connectivity. The project specifically aims to provide diverse cable routes and connect geographically separated Google Cloud regions in Chile, the U.S. West Coast (Los Angeles, Las Vegas), and the U.S. East Coast (South Carolina, Virginia).

The 'Americas Connect' project is designed to improve the overall reach, reliability, and resilience of internet connectivity. By establishing redundant pathways and increasing the diversity of submarine cable routes, Google aims to ensure a more robust digital infrastructure for its cloud services and global users.
