Google celebrates Peru's 205th Independence Day with special doodle

Google has joined Peru's Fiestas Patrias celebrations by dedicating a special doodle to the nation's 205th Independence Day on July 28th. The illustration prominently features the Peruvian flag waving against a light blue background, accompanied by the search engine's logo. This celebratory graphic is exclusively visible to users accessing Google from within Peru.

Accompanying the doodle, Google offers a simple yet heartfelt message: "Happy Independence Day, Peru!". Clicking on the animation leads users to a page filled with information pertaining to the July 28th commemoration, which marks the proclamation of independence by General José de San Martín in 1821. This annual tribute has become a tradition for Google, which has been honoring Peru's independence for over a decade.

Since its first tribute in 2008, which featured the Peruvian flag integrated into its logo for the 187th anniversary, Google has developed more than 30 doodles inspired by Peru's rich history, culture, and natural landscapes. One particularly memorable design from 2017 was created by graphic artist Elliot Tupac, showcasing iconic elements such as the Andean hummingbird, Machu Picchu, and other symbols of Peru's diverse heritage. The current year's doodle, with the flag against a sky-like backdrop, continues this tradition of visual celebration.

Independence Day in Peru, celebrated on July 28th, commemorates the proclamation made by General José de San Martín in 1821 and forms the core of the Fiestas Patrias.
