Google Play removes Russian e-commerce platform OZON's banking app

Google Play removed OZON Bank's application from its platform on Wednesday, impacting the Russian e-commerce giant which had previously faced Western sanctions. The company confirmed the app's unavailability but assured users that previously downloaded applications would continue to function normally.

OZON advised customers to use its website or web application to access banking services, including payments, transfers, and other operations within Russia. The company emphasized that Western sanctions, including those from the EU's 21st package, do not affect the bank's activities and that all financial resources remain secure.

This move mirrors a recent decision by Apple, which removed Yandex's payment app, Yandex Pay, from its App Store. Both tech giants have previously removed Russian applications, including social media platforms VK and Odnoklassniki, and the messaging service MAX, amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and sanctions.
