Gornji Milanovac residents protest water rationing with empty bottles

Residents of Gornji Milanovac in central Serbia staged a symbolic protest against persistent water rationing by placing empty plastic bottles in front of the municipal administration building. The town is currently grappling with severe water restrictions, implementing alternating 12-hour supply cuts for different groups of residents.

The office of Municipal President Dejan Kovacevic attributed the restrictions to record-low water levels in the Rzav River, the primary water source for Gornji Milanovac and four other towns. However, the statement also pointed to "extremely wasteful" water consumption by local residents as a contributing factor.

This situation is not isolated to Gornji Milanovac. The neighboring city of Cacak is also experiencing similar water restrictions, highlighting a broader issue of water scarcity in the region. The protest underscores the community's frustration with the ongoing water shortages and the measures being taken to manage them.
