Serbian residents can return home after wildfire evacuation

Residents of the Serbian settlements Šumarak and Dubovac are cleared to return home following their evacuation on August 6 due to a wildfire in the Deliblatska Peščara nature reserve. The Municipal Emergency Situations Staff of Kovin announced that the current situation on the ground, in coordination with relevant services, has determined that Šumarak is safe for habitation.

While active fires continue within the Deliblatska Peščara, the current fire activity poses no danger to the settlements of Šumarak and Dubovac. Emergency teams are continuously monitoring the situation and on duty around the clock to prevent new fire outbreaks. The emergency situation remains in effect, and residents are strongly advised to adhere strictly to instructions from the Municipal Emergency Situations Staff, firefighting units, police, and other authorized services upon their return and while in the settlements.

Authorities have also requested that citizens do not impede the movement and work of emergency teams and machinery. Traffic on a section of the State Road II A order, number 134, between Kovin and Bela Crkva, remains restricted. Traffic is managed with controlled passage to ensure unimpeded movement for vehicles involved in firefighting and other emergency services, and to protect the lives and safety of citizens and all road users. Maximum caution, responsibility, and cooperation from all citizens with the services still on the ground are essential. The Municipal Staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely public updates on significant changes and further measures.
