Government bans 14 Argentines for World Cup incidents

Argentina's government has imposed entry bans on 14 citizens, prohibiting them from attending any sporting events in the country for periods ranging from two to four years. The measures, published in the Official Gazette, stem from various incidents that occurred during the 2026 World Cup.

Four individuals, Gonzalo Paulo Barrero, Thomas Kastner, Lucas Mariano Andrés Margiotta, and Franco Ezequiel Di Salvo, face a 24-month ban. They are accused of causing disorder, engaging in physical confrontations, and other disturbances during Argentina's match against Egypt in Atlanta, USA, on July 7. The list also includes Bianca Soifer, a sports journalist who covered multiple World Cup games.

Two other individuals, Emiliano Armando Arcos and Rubén Ángel Arcos, received a 24-month ban for using credentials belonging to others and breaching stadium security controls during the Argentina-Egypt match, according to FIFA's report.

The remaining seven individuals, Pablo Matías Acosta, Leandro Gastón Fernández, Sebastián Farre, Matías Ezequiel Silveti, Emiliano Ruy Tagliarino, Vando Ruy Tagliarino, and Vito Ruy Tagliarino, are linked to clashes between fans of San Lorenzo and Huracán clubs. These incidents occurred on July 14 near Atlanta's Underground district during a rally supporting the Argentine national team.

Leandro Gastón Fernández and Matías Ezequiel Silveti received the longest bans, four years, due to the seriousness of their alleged offenses. Fernández was also detained by Orlando Police for alleged theft, while Silveti was arrested by Atlanta Police for his involvement in the fan disturbances. The Tagliarino brothers and Acosta received three-year bans.
