Government Holds Its Final Cabinet Meeting Before Legislative Elections to Review Housing Support and New Industrial Acceleration Zone

Morocco’s government is set to hold what is described as its final cabinet meeting before the legislative elections, with housing support and industrial development among the main items on the agenda. The meeting will take place on Thursday, September 10, as the election campaign gets under way and just 13 days before voters are scheduled to go to the polls on September 23.

The cabinet, led by Aziz Akhannouch, is meeting during the final days of the current government’s term. Its agenda combines social measures, regulatory changes, and international legal commitments, giving the session a broad reach at a politically sensitive point in the government’s mandate.

Among the most prominent measures is a draft decree amending the rules for state housing assistance. The measure concerns the forms of support available and the conditions for people seeking assistance when purchasing homes intended as their primary residence. The issue is presented as one of the meeting’s leading social files.

The cabinet is also expected to examine a decree implementing Law No. 36.09, which bans the development, production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons and provides for their destruction. The justice minister will present the measure, according to the agenda prepared by the General Secretariat of the Government.

Industrial policy features through a draft decree amending the rules that established the Jorf industrial acceleration zone. In higher education and scientific research, ministers are expected to consider three draft decrees. One would define the membership, organization, and working methods of the National Commission for Higher Education Coordination and its permanent committees. Another would amend the rules governing university institutions, postgraduate study tracks, and the corresponding national degrees. The agenda also includes matters linked to international judicial cooperation.
