The significant victory of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Johor state election is unlikely to sway undecided voters in Negeri Sembilan, who are now more focused on the current performance of the unity government, according to a political researcher.

Prof. Madya Dr. Syahruddin Awang Ahmad from Universiti Malaysia Sabah's Borneo Geopolitical and Electoral Studies (GeoPES) stated that the Johor win provides BN Negeri Sembilan with psychological momentum and a moral boost. However, he noted that the political landscape in Negeri Sembilan has changed dramatically due to recent developments within the unity government.

"The impact of BN's victory in Johor, especially on undecided voters in Negeri Sembilan, is very limited because the political landscape in Negeri Sembilan has changed drastically since the incident involving the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the conflict between component parties of the state's unity government," Syahruddin explained.

He believes that undecided voters in Negeri Sembilan are now more influenced by the unity government's current performance, domestic economic stability, and local cooperation formulas, rather than the sentiment from the Johor success. Regarding speculation about Khairy Jamaluddin being BN's poster boy for the Negeri Sembilan state election, Syahruddin warned that such a move could create hierarchical conflicts within the state UMNO leadership. He suggested that the position of Negeri Sembilan BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, could be politically and administratively affected if another figure is promoted as the party's main face for the election. This could impact the readiness and cooperation among UMNO-BN assemblymen and undermine Jalaluddin's credibility in leading the election machinery, potentially causing internal boycotts and confusion among grassroots members about the true Menteri Besar candidate.
